A Safe Place to Call Home: Accredited and Award-Winning Care

Currently, St. Josephs Place received a five-star rating from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS), which rates nursing homes nationwide that participate in Medicare or Medicaid. Nursing Home Compare, a resource on the Medicare website, gives each facility a rating between one and five stars. The ratings come from a combination of health inspections, staffing and quality of resident care measures at each specific nursing facility. CMS calculates a star rating for each of these three categories, along with an overall facility rating, with a five-star rating indicating a facility’s exemplary care and physical environment.

St. Josephs Place was awarded the 2018-2019 U.S. News & World Report’s “high performance overall and high performance for short term rehabilitation” designations. U.S. News & World Report is a leading expert in the evaluation and rating of healthcare providers across the country. Over 15,000 nursing homes and rehabilitation centers nationwide were evaluated.

Only 15 percent of nursing homes earned the high performance designation. The results of the report were based on ratings from the federal Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services, health inspections, nurse staffing and measures of medical quality of care and rehabilitation therapy.

St. Josephs Place was previously named a Top-Performing Nursing Home in New York State and achieved the top percentile in each quality initiative for three consecutive years through the New York State Department of Health. St. Josephs Place is the only skilled nursing facility to be awarded this distinction in Orange County. Additionally, The Federal Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services has honored St. Josephs Place with a five-star rating in overall quality and health inspection.

Thermal Scanning

We are now using thermal scanning to check all approved visitors for fever. To protect the health and safety of our patients and our workforce, you must also protect your own health to help prevent the spread of the coronavirus (COVID-19).

  • WMCHealth protocols during this time require that all visitors are fever-free for at least 72 hours before entering the hospital.

While a fever is a symptom of COVID-19 – it can also be a symptom of many other illnesses. If you are concerned about your fever, please reach out directly to your primary care physician. We will continue to scan any approved visitors for fever. Once you are fever free for 72 hours and without symptoms of illness, you can return for screening, and then visitation after screening.

Testimonial 1:  Beverly Roa

Beverly Roa, 75

"I was at Bon Secours Community Hospital in the ICU because I could not walk without help and I could not talk.  I was transferred to St. Josephs Place so I could receive additional help and treatment.  They called for speech therapy while I was there and due to this helpful therapy and a new medication that was prescribed to me my voice/ability to talk came back.  This was a miracle for me.  The nursing staff at St. Josephs Place was instrumental in my recovery.  They would not let me just stay in my room, they helped me try new things and challenged me to improve.  Because of the patience and insistence of my physical therapist I was walking with the help of a walker (but on my own -- and without a wheel chair) within a week."

"Every single member of the nursing staff, nursing aides, speech, physical and occupational therapists at St. Josephs Place are phenomenal."
